Travel
Traveling here is easy. You can take the train, fly, or bus. Or drive, if you want. All directions are to 235 W Main St, Charlottesville, Virginia USA 22902 (Omni Charlottesville Hotel) which is at the very west end of the Downtown Pedestrian Mall.
To actually get TO the venue, you want to go to the EAST end of the Mall. Just walk east on the brick pavement, and when you see the huge outdoor concert arena in front of you (a big white tent shaped like a lobster trap), start looking on your left for the Post Office. The Post Office is just underneath the place itself. TODO: get a photo of the place :)

Train
The Charlottesville Amtrak train station (CVS) is a straight shot from Union Station in Washington, DC. It is a few blocks west of the Downtown Pedestrian Mall. Walk out of the station and you are facing Main Street, looking north. Walk to Main Street (climb the big stairs) and walk to the right (east) for several blocks; you will come to a big intersection with a statue of Lewis and Clark. This is the west end of the Mall.
Bus
The Charlottesville Greyhound Station is a bit east of the Amtrak station, but still west of the Mall.
Fly
You can fly to any of several nearby airports.
- CHO (Charlottesville): this is by far the most convenient. It is a very modern airport that has been upgraded recently. It's small -- no long lines. It's about a 20 minute flight from IAD (Dulles) and there are flights from lots of hubs as far away as the Midwest. So if you're flying from California, for example, you might jump through Atlanta, Detroit, Charlotte or several others. There are rental cars; there's no bus transport from the airport, unfortunately, but a couple of hotels have shuttles (these are not near the conference space, though). You are about a 20-minute drive from the Downtown Mall. Driving Directions
- IAD (Dulles International): In good traffic, you're about 2 hours from Charlottesville at this airport. While this may sound attractive, be aware that traffic in the Washington/Dulles metropolitan area can be pretty bad and can add up to an hour to the drive. If you plan on driving from Dulles to Charlottesville after 16:00 local time, be prepared to be in rush hour the whole way. The same is true on the way back -- it's a long morning drive. Driving Directions
- Richmond (RIC) is sometimes more economical. This is about 1.5 hours drive. Driving Directions
Drive
Use Google Maps to get to the Omni (if that's your destination).
